Hillsboro Municipal Court

The Hillsboro Municipal Court handles most traffic tickets in Highland County. This court covers traffic violations, misdemeanor cases, and civil claims up to $15,000. If you got a ticket within the county, your case most likely goes through this court unless it involves a felony-level charge, in which case the Common Pleas Court would take it.

Some smaller towns in Highland County may have Mayor's Courts that deal with minor traffic violations. These courts are not courts of record. Their records may not show up in the CourtView system or the statewide search tools. If you cannot find your case online, contact the village where the ticket was issued to see if a Mayor's Court handled it.

Highland County Traffic Points

Ohio uses a point system for all traffic violations. Every conviction in Highland County gets sent to the Ohio BMV per ORC Section 4510.036. Two points for most moving violations like speeding 10 to 29 mph over the limit. Four points for more serious offenses like reckless operation or speeding 30 mph or more over the limit. Six points for OVI, leaving the scene of a crash, street racing, or fleeing police.

Six points in two years triggers a BMV warning letter. Twelve points in two years results in a six-month license suspension. A remedial driving course removes two points. The BMV allows one credit every three years, up to five lifetime credits. The Ohio Department of Public Safety maintains a list of approved driving schools.
