Ashtabula County Municipal Court Locations

Ashtabula County is big enough that the municipal court operates out of two buildings. The East Court is in Jefferson and the West Court is in the city of Ashtabula. Where your traffic ticket case gets heard depends on where the violation happened. If you got pulled over in the eastern part of the county, your case goes to the Jefferson courthouse. Western violations go to the Ashtabula location.

The East Court sits at 62 W. Jefferson Street in Jefferson. You can reach them at (440) 576-3635. The West Court is at 4400 Ambassador Drive in Ashtabula, and their phone number is (440) 998-2855. Both courts handle traffic violations, misdemeanor criminal cases, and civil matters. Court hours are the same at both spots: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Online case search and ticket payment work for either location. The court's website lets you look up citations and pay fines for cases at both the East and West courts. If you are not sure which court has your case, you can search online or call either location and they will point you in the right direction.

Note: Your citation should list which court location your case is assigned to, so check the bottom of the ticket for the court address.

Traffic Ticket Points for Ashtabula County Drivers

Every traffic conviction in Ashtabula County gets reported to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Points land on your driving record based on how serious the violation was. The schedule is set by Section 4510.036 of the Ohio Revised Code.

Most common moving violations carry two points. Speeding 10 to 29 mph over the limit is two points. Running a stop sign is two points. Failing to yield is two points. Four-point violations include reckless operation and speeding 30 or more over the posted limit. The six-point category is for things like OVI, leaving the scene of a crash, or street racing. Six points in two years brings a warning from the BMV. Twelve points in two years means your license gets suspended for six months.

A remedial driving course can cut two points from your record. The BMV allows one course credit every three years, with a lifetime cap of five. You can check your current point total at bmv.ohio.gov or by ordering a copy of your driving record.
