Harrison County Traffic Points

Ohio tracks points on every driver's record through the BMV. When you get convicted of a traffic violation in Harrison County, the court sends an abstract to the Ohio BMV. Points are added based on the offense per ORC Section 4510.036.

Most moving violations carry two points. This covers speeding 10 to 29 mph over the limit and other common infractions. Four points are assessed for more serious offenses like reckless driving or going 30 mph or more over the posted speed. The worst violations get six points: OVI, leaving the scene of a crash, street racing, and fleeing police.

Six points in two years triggers a warning letter from the BMV. Twelve points in two years means your license gets suspended for six months. You can take a remedial driving course to remove two points. The BMV allows one credit every three years, up to five lifetime credits total.
